VILNIUS, Jun 25, BNS – A person treated at a hospice in Klaipeda has become the latest COVID-19 fatality in Lithuania whereas the single new coronavirus case confirmed in the country over the past 24 hours involved an employee of Santara Clinics in the Lithuanian capital who was in isolation due to a contact with an infected person.

The latest COVID-19 victim – a 76-year-old person treated at the Klaipeda hospice since late November 2019 – was diagnosed with the coronavirus on April 18, Rolanda Lingiene, director of the National Public Health Center's Vilnius Department, said.

He died on Monday of COVID-19 and underlying health conditions.

Meanwhile, the single COVID-19 case confirmed over the last 24 hours involved an employee of Santara Clinics, who had no contacts with other persons following earlier isolation due to a contact with an infected person.

“It is a healthcare worker of Santara Clinics and that person was isolated after a celebration held by medical workers at the Beer House restaurant on June 12,” Lingiene told BNS on Wednesday.

All nine persons who took part in the celebration were put in isolation on June 14 after one of them tested positive for COVID-19, she added.

According to the data made available by the National Public Health Center (NPHC), 232 people are currently ill with COVID-19, and 1,484 are considered to have recovered.

Seventy-eight people have died of COVID-19 in the country so far, and another ten coronavirus-infected patients have died of other causes.

Some 147 people are in isolation.
