VILNIUS, Jan 10, BNS – Lithuania's State Consumer Rights Protections Authority continues the European Commission's investigation into dual quality of products and is looking into the production circumstances of five products with the biggest difference in their composition from other EU countries, the Verslo Zinios daily writes.

The authority has turned to their producers to identify the cause for such differences. The products are not disclosed not to damage the reputation of the companies involved.

The consumer rights protection service also said there have been no complaints from Lithuanian consumers over dual quality over the last five years.

BNS reminds that the European Commission presented an analysis by the Joint Research Centre last summer amid complaints by European Union's eastern members that their consumers suffer due to dual quality of food products.

After 1,380 samples of 128 food products from 19 EU countries were tested, scientists said they found no evidence of a clear difference in the quality of food products between eastern and western countries.

Irma Gudziunaite, the then vice minister of justice, told BNS the country would have to evaluate itself whether differences in product compositions might affect their quality.
