VILNIUS, Jun 25, BNS – Lietuvos Oro Uostai (Lithuanian Airports), the operator of Lithuania’s airports, sees passenger traffic at the country’s three airports plunging by 50 percent this year as a result of the coronavirus crisis, which forced air carriers to suspend commercial flights in spring.
Air traffic should surge in July, Aurimas Stikliunas, head of the airport operator's aviation services, said at a news conference on Thursday, adding that the company expected passenger traffic to reach 80 percent of its 2019 level at the end of 2020.
“The spring slump has had a significant effect. However, we see what we can expect in the future after the implementation of our measures and strategy. We expect to reach a breakthrough point in July, which will mark the beginning of the general recovery of air traffic,” he noted.
This year’s air passenger traffic was projected to slump by an annual 50 percent across the world and by 57 percent in Europe alone, Stikliunas added.
