VILNIUS, Mar 30, BNS - An additional team of Croatian and German medics has come to Lithuania to treat coronavirus-infected soldiers of NATO's multinational battalion stationed in the country, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.
The medical personnel and special equipment were flown to Lithuania by a special plane from Croatia on Sunday, it said.
Dutch Captain Evert-Jan Daniels, the battalion's spokesman, told BNS that 24 soldiers had tested positive for the coronavirus.
They have been moved from Rukla, central Lithuania, to Pabrade, near Vilnius.
According to the ministry, the infected soldiers are isolated and have no contact with Lithuanian troops stationed in Pabrade.
The German-led NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group was deployed to Lithuania in February 2017 in response to Russia's aggression in Ukraine and its activity in the Baltic Sea region.
